Water Softener FAQs

Q. Why should I install a water softener system?
A. “Hard water” is generally not harmful to our health (aside from leading to dry skin), but can cause a number of problems. The excess of minerals like magnesium, iron and calcium can cause scale to form which clogs pipes and can shorten the life of electrical appliances like your washing machine, dishwasher, kettle and iron. The scale can also damage your hot water heater and make it less efficient (leading to higher electricity bills). Other problems include scale build up on faucets, tiles, and other surfaces near the water supply.

Q. How do I find out the hardness of my water?
A. The best way is by contacting your local water utility company, as they are required to provide you with this information. Living in UK, chances are you do have very hard water, as most areas here have a high mineral content in the water. There may be other signs such as calcium deposits on your dishes or hard water stains on your bathtub.
