Different types of clogged drains require different methods of cleaning them. Drain cleaning could involve using an auger to bore through clogged matter in toilet or septic lines, but chemicals could be used to unclog a stopped up sink, bathtub or washing machine line. In some cases, it could be necessary to take pipes apart in order to easily reach the source of the clog. Professional drain cleaning companies can quickly assess the situation in order to determine the appropriate course of action to take.

Compare Drain Cleaning Costs

Average drain cleaning costs fluctuate based upon the type of drain being unstopped and the amount of matter that needs to be removed. Clogs that are due to paper or hard objects being located in a drain are typically very difficult to remove, which means you could end up being charged more money. Having a contractor come to your home or business at night, on the weekend or during a holiday can result in higher labour charges, thereby driving up the cost as well. When pipes need to be taken apart, the bill can cost more than it would have otherwise.

Drain Cleaning FAQs

Q. Why should I hire a professional to clean my drains?
A. While routinely using a drain cleaner containing sulphuric acid is often enough to keep drains from clogging up, it is never 100% effective at removing all the matter that builds up over the years. After a while, drains start to stink and clogging becomes more serious and harder to address. A professional drain cleaning service will have the equipment and experience necessary to do the job properly. This may involve using an auger bore, industrial grade chemicals, and when necessary, dismantling the drain pipes for a more thorough clean.

Q. How often should drain cleaning be performed?
A. Ideally, drain cleaning should be performed every 12 to 18 months, or sooner if you notice your water draining very slowly. Routine cleanings will prevent buildup from occurring that could result in water backing up inside your home.
